A New Beginning Starts with the Confidence to Let Go

Hi Everyone,

How was your Easter?

I love springtime and the Easter Holiday because it delivers the promise of new beginnings, life after death, and just a much needed re-birth for everything.

It's a strong reminder that reassures us that when one door closes, another one will indeed open. Yet, sometimes, we can get stuck in the transition, the "hallway" so to speak between doors.

How about you? Are you experiencing an "ending" or a big transition in your life?  These are interesting times we are living in, aren't they?

Life's inevitable hallways can be difficult places to be.

So today I wanted to share a few ideas for how we can get out of the hallway and through the next door!

So, what keeps us stuck hanging around in the hallway?

The "hallway" is comforting in a way. (Even though it's not physically comfortable at all! It's confined and restricting!) It allows us to kind of hang on to our old life or at least believe that we still have access to it.
The hallway is also nice because we can get glimpses of the new door and it allows us to think about all the new possibilities. Yet, we still might choose to camp out in the hall for a while because the reality of actually moving towards something completely new and unknown can feel unsettling and sometimes just plain scary!

Somewhere deep inside we all know that when we walk through that next door, the hallway containing our old life will be gone forever. So... we linger, we can even get stuck in this sort of foggy limbo that leaves us feeling agitated and miserable!

Leaving the old behind can be painful. Especially if it's something we really loved and now we have to say goodbye. This can be something big like a death, divorce or something else, such as in my case, a child growing up and leaving home.

You know deep down it's over, you even know it's time to move on to the next phase but your heart still aches for the life you are leaving behind.

Grief can be so hard. It can feel like you'll never get out of the hallway or the pain. It can be hard to imagine any kind of new life. Yet, spring reminds us that we have to keep going. Nature keeps going, life continues to go forward, it is all moving on and so must we.

I'm sharing all of this today because just having someone language what's happening, the simple act of understanding where you are and what's going on helps to ease the stress.

It helps to logically note that you're in transition and its okay. Maybe you're feeling a lot of sadness and inner conflict because life is asking you to move on and it hurts and there's a part of you that's fighting to hold on.

Knowing all of this helps the change to be less scary, less daunting, and less debilitating. It provides the opportunity to see where you are from a higher perspective, kind of like seeing a map of your life. It might be bumpy and painful, but if you're able to see the map, even just for a moment, you'll know that you can get through this passage and you'll be okay.

If you're at a crossroads, a transition, a "hallway" it's a wonderful time to practice meditation and self-care.  If needed, take the time and allow yourself to cry, to move through the emotions, whatever they may be. Sadness helps us to let go so we can be more open to the new that's trying to come into our lives.

sadness is healing

If you're not sure where to start, here's a simple healing process that helps to relieve the heaviness and stress. It's called Meridian Tapping.

If you've never heard of it, Meridian Tapping is a form of Energy Psychology. It works to clear and release emotional blockages. If you're new to this, I know it will seem strange but if you think about it... emotion is really just "energy in motion." All negative emotion is caused by disruptions in the body's energy system, that's why it hurts! Negative emotion means the energy is stuck and unable to move.
When you tap directly on the body's energy system in conjunction with the painful emotion, you help clear the blockage and allow the energy to move. So.. in a nutshell, this tapping technique will help dissolve the emotional charge and calm things down so you can figure out what to do next. If you want more specifics about how and why it works, click here.

Side of hand: Even though I'm feeling so many emotions right now, it seems like everything is changing and it's hard to keep up, I'm doing the best I know how.

Even though I'm not sure I'm ready for all these changes, I'm feeling stuck and confined where I am yet, I'm not sure I'm ready to move on and even if I was, I have no idea what the next steps will look like.. I accept myself and all my feelings, I'm doing the best I know how.

Even though I know I need to move forward, it's time to make some healing changes in my life, I feel discouraged and overwhelmed. Sometimes, it feels like I don't have any options, like I'm stuck in this miserable place with no way out. I love and forgive myself, I'm doing  the best I know how.

Inside of Eyebrow: There's so much going on.

Side of Eye: I really want to move forward, I am done with all this chaos.

Under the Eye: I hate feeling like I don't have any choices. Sometimes I wonder if it will ever be better than this..

Under the Nose: Sometimes it's hard to imagine that things will get better, smoother, and easier when so far, things have been really hard!

Chin: It's hard to imagine that the next new door won't bring more of the same kind of pain and stress.

Collarbone: I'm really needing some relief and healing in my life and I've been unsure of how to go about creating it.

Under the arm: I forgive myself for feeling low and experiencing all of this discouragement.

Top of head: I'm really needing some freedom, lightness, and results!

Inside of Eyebrow: I'm doing the best that I know how. Maybe I don't have to have all the answers right now. Maybe the first step is to just be open to some new possibilities.

Side of Eye: To be open to new ideas and solutions.

Under the Eye: Maybe life is calling me to let go. To let go of all my old ways of doing things, of seeing life in general?

Under the nose: I can be open to letting go and allowing some new ideas?

Chin: Maybe that's all I need to do right now to help the transition to go more smoothly.

Collarbone: I'm doing the best I know how.

Under the arm: I'm open to relaxing and taking care of me.

Top of head: I'm open to trusting that new ideas, solutions, opportunities and experiences are coming into my life and it feels really good.

Take some deep breaths and allow yourself to let go and relax.
