Feeling Overwhelmed?
A few weeks before school got out for the summer I noticed myself feeling really tense. As the day wore on, I noticed I was feeling more and more agitated and overwhelmed.
I had already planned out my whole week and I had my mind set on exactly how I was going to get everything done. Then I got a call from one of my boys teachers informing me that he was behind and I would need to start coming to the school to help him. My other son needed extra help on a report and I had forgotten totally about the quarterly reports that were due for our business. As all this stuff was needing to get done, I noticed the dishes and laundry piling up and the clutter around the house becoming more than I was comfortable with.
I swear in this moment I could feel my blood pressure starting to rise. I was definitely getting agitated and tense. I was even getting edgy with the family.
I love this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, "It is foolish to focus on too many things at once, one link in the chain of destiny is all that can be handled at a time." This quote is one of
my favorites because it reminds me that I need to chill out and handle one "link" at a time. I need to be flexible and allow Divine Assistance and flow.
In reality, it's not that bad unless I'm trying to hold it all in my head at once. Everyone logically knows this stuff. Of course you know you need to focus on one thing at a time and set priorities. But.. knowing that doesn't always physically help your body to be less tense and the to-do list to get any shorter.
Here's a technique that's super helpful when things are feeling like too much.
